Ava Sculpt...Update 3/29

More updates on Ava. With the temporary hair she looks more like Lucille Ball or Wilma Flintstone, but it's their temporarily to show the hairline and some volumes only.

Thanks for looking. Still some work needed on the mouth and other areas. Comments certainly welcomed!

Side Project- Female Sculpt

Hello, everyone. Thanks for visiting my blog. As a change of pace from my ongoing Hussar project, I decided to start a new challenge in sculpting a female face. One would be hard pressed to find a more beautiful face for reference than classic film star Ava Gardner. Feedback and opinions on this one greatly welcomed as this is my first real shot at a female face. The scale is 200mm. This head is approximately 3/4 inch high!

Update 3/21/08

Here are a few shots of the Hussar bust with the cording and lace work going on. I experimented with a couple of different types of wire and string, but couldn't find what I liked for the larger cord sections on the chest. I'm making these from magic sculpt and will fill in between them with some small braided jeweler's wire I found. I may need to update my glasses perscription after this one's done! Thanks for looking.

Another Hussar Update........

Work has begun on the basic uniform details like the collar and coat. These are just simple forms that will receive all the lace work and braiding detail later. Some resembelence at this stage to Dr. Evil perhaps?

Hussar - More Progress

Here the rough torso and neck are going in. As always, it's critical to get this part right and work out any anatomical kinks before the uniform and details are added. Please shoot me an email or post here with any comments/critiques. They are always welcomed.

Hussar Head Sculpt

Here are a few first looks at the head for the Hannoverian Hussar bust. The initial volumes are going in and I'm working to recreate a wounded left eye. It's tricky to get it where it looks like a deformity rather than bad sculpting. Hopefully, I got it right. Still in the beginning stages with much to do. His bushy moustache will be added later.

Thanks for looking!

Hannoverian Guard Hussar 1849

Hello everyone. Thanks for visiting my site. I'm getting started on a new bust sculpting project. It will depict this Hussar Guard in his glory similarly dressed as in the portrait shown here. The piece will be in my usual 250mm scale. I continue to be challenged by portraiture. It is not an easy thing to make a 2 dimensional image into a 3 dimensional sculpt. Wish me luck! This guy will have loads of character and detail. Thanks for looking in and more pics to follow soon!
