Czar Nicholas Painting

Just started painting the boxart for a future Michael Miniatures bust. This one is Czar Nicholas in 1/9th scale. It's a bit larger size which will demand even smoother transitions. Just starting the face with the first couple of highlighting steps done so far. Much to do....

Hey Matt, really excited to see you paint this as I am dying to get my hands on a casting of this to paint. I'm sure I will learn a lot from seeing your efforts here. I have a couple of this company's busts that I want to buy from Steve Kirtley and am interested in the quality of casting. Jim

Jim,

Mike's castings are excellent. They have little flash and the parts always fit together well. The detail is always crisp which makes for easy painting. Still trying to figure out how I want to try and replicate the polished brass helmet on this guy.....More updates soon.

Phil Kessling used to promote his technique of using Gunze Transparent Amber and Yellow over polished metal. You could use a metallizer, polished and then overcoated with thinned layers of amber to replicate the brass I suppose. There are shades of metallizer out there that might give you just the tone you are looking for. I'll do a bit of research for you.
